Not Economical, Santos Sampang Kaji Continuation Block
Santos was to evaluate the continuation of an orange field development, assessed Block Sampang as uneconomical. Whereas until recently the home of Australia's oil and gas company has disbursed funds of around U.S. $ 80-90 million for the field located offshore East Java.
"We're still in evaluation stage. Because if the current conditions if the field is less economically developed," Indonesian President Marjolijn Wajong Santos after the agreement signing ceremony paying agent blocks the sale of gas from the Madura Offshore at Plaza Mandiri, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Tuesday (07/09/2010).
In conducting the evaluation, continued Marjolijn, it also was coordinating with the implementing agency kegiataan upstream oil and gas (BP Migas) to determine the next steps over the square.
"We will also search other specific techniques that can be used for this field can be economical," he explained.
He also has not been able to ascertain whether the company will return to the government's management of that field or not. "That will be discussed also with BP Migas," he said.
Marjolijn hoped that evaluation could be completed by mid this year.
Meanwhile, the head of the Office of Public Relations and Institutional Relations BP's oil and gas, Elan Biantoro estimate the allocation of funds already disbursed to Santos Citrus Square is to reach U.S. $ 80-90 million.
"Dana is not just for seismic surveys, but also to drill two wells and others," he said.
Elan added that Santos could not withdraw from managing the Jeruk field because that field is part of the Sampang Block that has been developed by the company.
"Field Oyong existing in the block Sampang's also been producing. So they should not pull out because they already benefit from Oyong field. Most of the block development will be pending before or find another way so that this field can be economical," he explained .
Santos is the operator Orange in the field by holding shares amounting to 45%, while the remainder held by Singapore Petroleum Sampang Ltd (SPC) (40%) and Cue Sampang Pty Ltd (15%).
Orange field located in the Sampang Block, offshore East Java, about 42 kilometers east of Surabaya.
